Our ELECTROLIFE partner AAU has authored a new scientific article within the project. The article, titled Degradation-aware supervisory control of PEM water electrolysers under renewable operation: Joint current–temperature optimisation for lifetime-LCOH trade-offs, was published in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy.
The study presents a degradation-aware supervisory control strategy for PEM water electrolysers operating under variable renewable energy supply. By jointly optimising current density and operating temperature, the proposed approach balances hydrogen production efficiency, stack degradation, and hydrogen production costs. The results demonstrate that considering degradation during operation can significantly reduce the levelised cost of hydrogen (LCOH) while extending electrolyser lifetime.
Using real-world renewable energy and electricity market data, the researchers show how advanced control strategies can improve the economic viability and long-term durability of PEM electrolysers, supporting the large-scale deployment of green hydrogen technologies.
We congratulate all authors on this achievement within ELECTROLIFE!
