Stargate Hydrogen Systems OU

Organisation Introduction

Stargate is an alkaline electrolyser original equipment manufacturer, focusing on the commercialisation of its novel electrode and stack technologies. Stargate’s core technology builds upon the best aspects of proven alkaline technology, which the company complements with breakthrough materials that it develops in-house. This leads to a completely new class of electrolysers: ceramics-based alkaline electrolysers, that boast high current densities and high efficiencies yet contain no precious metals. Stargate electrolysers have lower CAPEX than electrolysers which contain precious metals, and lower OPEX, enabling green hydrogen to be produced at significantly lower costs. Stargate operates in two business segments – it offers electrolysis stacks for system integrators and electrolyser turnkey systems for end-users.

Why ELECTROLIFE?

Stargate is a product-based business and provider of integrated electrolysis solutions. A main modality for us is the exploitation of the ELECTROLIFE outcomes to improve the quality of our products and services. The project matches perfectly with our technology roadmap – Reducing the cost of ownership, extending the lifetime and reducing the degradation of the electrolysers will make us more competitive while contributing also to the Fit for 55 targets of the EC

What in ELECTROLIFE?

The project is about enhancing knowledge on comprehensive electrolysers technologies degradation through modeling, testing and lifetime prevision, toward industrial implementation.  Stargate’s role is to design and develop a stack with an active area of 100 cm2, and deliver 3-5 cells and also 2-3 stacks for testing and validation. This includes also supporting actions like the electrolyser lifetime prediction models and function of operating conditions tool settings and validation as well as defining the specs for test benches and participation in prototypes’ post-mortem analysis.

“Participating in the ELECTROLIFE project allows us to work with the top players in the field resulting in a deep understanding of degradation effects at the stack level and enabling us to improve the durability of of our products’ performance significantly. As an outcome, our electrolysers can operate in variable conditions (coupling with renewable energy sources like wind and sun) and will bring many benefits and competitive advantages.”
