As Europe accelerates toward a climate-neutral economy, the Hydrogen Strategy for a Climate-Neutral Europe places electrolyser technologies at the heart of the transition as they enable a clean, storable, and versatile energy source that supports decarbonisation across industries. Achieving the European Green Deal’s ambitions, however, requires a rapid scale-up—measured in gigawatts—of reliable, efficient, and long-lasting electrolyser systems. The European Union’s hydrogen vision depends on a robust electrolyser ecosystem that can meet both technical and policy demands: cost reduction, enhanced efficiency and performance, material sustainability, and prolonged lifetime.
Addressing these priorities requires close collaboration among research projects, industry innovators, and policymakers—a goal shared by two leading EU-funded initiatives: DELYCIOUS and ELECTROLIFE. Together, these projects are driving innovation in electrolysis monitoring, diagnostics, and durability—key enablers for scaling hydrogen technologies safely, affordably, and sustainably across Europe.
As Europe’s hydrogen landscape evolves, research collaboration must translate into policy-driven dialogue and cross-sector learning.
